More on the weak gravity conjecture via convexity of charged operators

چکیده

The Weak Gravity Conjecture has recently been re-formulated in terms of a particle with non-negative self-binding energy. Because the dual conformal field theory (CFT) formulation anti-de Sitter space dimension $\Delta (Q)$ lowest-dimension operator charge Q under some global U(1) symmetry must be convex function Q. This property conjectured to hold for any (unitary) and generalized larger groups. Here we refine further test conjecture via semiclassical computations fixed sectors different theories dimensions. We analyze convexity properties leading next-to-leading order stemming from computation, de facto, extending previous tests beyond perturbative contributions arbitrary charges. In particular, contribution is sufficient computations. also consider intriguing cases which models feature transition real complex dimensions either as or number matter fields. As relevant example first kind, investigate $O(N)$ model $4+\epsilon$ an second type $U(N)\times U(M)$ $4-\epsilon$ Both display rich dynamics where, by changing fields and/or charge, one can achieve dramatically physical regimes. discover that whenever appears, part satisfies property.

Weak Gravity Conjecture

We investigate whether the eternal chaotic inflation can be achieved when the weak gravity conjecture is taken into account. We show that even the assisted chaotic inflation with potential λφ or mφ can not be eternal. The effective field theory description for the inflaton field breaks down before inflation reaches the eternal regime. We also find that the total number of e-folds is still bound...

Weak gravity conjecture constraints on inflation

We consider the gravitational correction to the coupling of the scalar fields. Weak gravity conjecture says that the gravitational correction to the running of scalar coupling should be less than the contribution from scalar fields. For instance, a new scale Λ = λ 1/2 4 Mp sets a UV cutoff on the validity of the effective λ4φ 4 theory. Furthermore, this conjecture provides a stringent constrain...

A proof of the weak gravity conjecture

The weak gravity conjecture suggests that, in a self-consistent theory of quantum gravity, the strength of gravity is bounded from above by the strengths of the various gauge forces in the theory. In particular, this intriguing conjecture asserts that in a theory describing a U(1) gauge field coupled consistently to gravity, there must exist a particle whose proper mass is bounded (in Planck un...

Naturalness and the weak gravity conjecture.

The weak gravity conjecture (WGC) is an ultraviolet consistency condition asserting that an Abelian force requires a state of charge q and mass m with q>m/m_{Pl}. We generalize the WGC to product gauge groups and study its tension with the naturalness principle for a charged scalar coupled to gravity. Reconciling naturalness with the WGC either requires a Higgs phase or a low cutoff at Λ∼qm_{Pl...

Infrared Consistency and the Weak Gravity Conjecture

The weak gravity conjecture (WGC) asserts that an Abelian gauge theory coupled to gravity is inconsistent unless it contains a particle of charge q and mass m such that q ≥ m/mPl. This criterion is obeyed by all known ultraviolet completions and is needed to evade pathologies from stable black hole remnants. In this paper, we explore the WGC from the perspective of low-energy effective field th...
